A Pull of Moonlight: A Darkness Bites Paranormal Romance Novel Page 3
“I need you,” I moaned as we kissed. He didn’t answer, but a deep growl sounded from deep in his chest and I could feel his primal need for me build inside of him, too. He pushed himself off me as he unzipped my pants and pulled them off faster than I thought possible. I pulled my shirt off and lay on his couch in my bra and panties. He looked down at me like I was his biggest prize in the world.
He pulled his shirt off and took off his pants as he stood beside me on the couch, and I looked up at his body, admiring the beautiful hard lines that chiseled into his stomach. I reached forward and hooked my finger around the top of his boxers and pulled him closer towards me, and as soon as he was right next to me on the couch, I pulled them off. I bit my lip as he stood straight up erect against his stomach, eager for me to take him. He was beautiful, every last inch of him was exposed. His body was a welcome distraction after the painful day I had had.
I pushed myself up on my elbow and then wrapped my arms around his hips and pulled him close and took him in my mouth. He groaned in pleasure as his knees wavered and he fell forward onto the couch and deeper into me. I took him completely down my throat as I sucked and stroked him with my tongue. I pulled my head back and then took him again deeply, and he shuddered from the sensation.
I didn’t want to let him go, and he awkwardly moved onto the couch above me as I kept my lips wrapped around him tightly. I moaned into him as my mouth worked, and finally I pulled him away and kissed his tip and looked up at him with a smile. I ran my tongue playfully along his length, teasing him. His eyes were closed and a smile spread across his lips in full bliss. I then took him back in my mouth and heard him groan again.
As much as I wanted to please him, though, the need inside me grew unbearable and I needed him to be inside me. I dug my nails into his hips and pulled him down, and he immediately pushed himself down onto me on the couch and unclasped my bra and pulled off my panties with such desperate speed that it was a whirlwind I could barely follow with my eyes. He spread my legs open with his and thrust himself inside me, forcing me to throw my head back and moan deeply at the sensation.
He was forceful and desperate, and he slid right inside of me without any restraint. The feeling of him thrust so hard made my body quiver, and he pressed his body down onto me as he plunged his tongue deep down my throat and kissed me so passionately and so deeply that my entire body was consumed with the feeling of him.
He pumped into me with such a vigorous force that it reminded me how perfect our bodies were for each other. We fit each other like a glove, and I wrapped my legs tightly around his back as he fucked me desperately on the couch. Waves of pleasure coursed through me as he increased his speed and thrust deeper and deeper inside of me as I moaned uncontrollably beneath him.
My body quivered in pleasure as I pressed my hips up against him with each thrust. Our bodies worked in unison, and our hands moved furiously over each other’s bodies. I dug my nails into his back and clawed down, and by the slick wetness on his back I knew I drew blood. I moaned into his mouth as he fucked me harder and harder still, until, finally, I pulled my mouth away from his and whispered, “I’m going to come if you keep fucking me like that.”
He smiled down at me as he ran his fingers through my hair and gazed deep into my eyes. I looked up at him with desperation as he continued to quicken his pace and pumped harder and faster and deeper into me. When he finally pushed me to climax, I arched my back up and threw my head back as I moaned loudly through the waves of pleasure that coursed through my body; an excruciating and beautiful agony that I wanted to last forever.
He then came down on me and pressed his lips into my neck as he bit my skin and groaned back, and thrust himself so deeply inside of me I could feel him quiver with pleasure. We both rode out our orgasm together in waves as we pressed our bodies deeply into each other before he finally collapsed on top of me in a sweaty, heavy heap.
We both laughed and he kissed me, and then he laid his head on my shoulders as we both lay there panting together on the couch.
“Wow, I didn’t think it could get any better,” I panted through my heavy breathing.
“You drive me fucking crazy, you know that?” he said into my neck.
I stroked his hair as we both regained our breaths, and I could feel him grow soft inside me. But when he went to pull out I held him close. “I don’t want you to leave,” I whispered into his ear.
He nuzzled deep into my neck as he kissed my skin and nibbled up to my earlobe. “I’m not going anywhere.”
We lay there for a long time, and I nearly dozed off. He ran his hands up and down the front of my body and then rested his hand on my breast. My eyes opened as he bent down and took my nipple in his mouth and nibbled playfully. My back arched from the pleasure, and I moaned at the sensation. I then felt him grew hard again inside of me and couldn’t help but laugh. “That was a fast rest,” I said. “Fuck, James. You’re a beast.”
He laughed a deep hearty laugh and winked at me. “Oh, you’ve got that right.” He kissed up my chest from where he had been working at my nipple with his tongue, and then bit my lip as he gazed into my eyes. “You have no idea what you do to me.”
I then pulled him back down on top of me as he began fucking me again, and we spent the entire afternoon together on the couch making love for hours until our bodies grew too exhausted to move.
We would rest together on the couch until our strength came back, and we’d continue fucking each other until the sun went down and the moon was high in the sky.

I lay on the couch, curled up with James, his arms wrapped around me, holding me tight as we slept cuddled together in the cushions. I pulled the blanket up over our naked bodies and we lay there together until we both fell asleep.
It was around three in the morning when I woke up in a panic after having a bad dream about Erik. I stared out of the window at the large moon that shown in the night sky, and couldn’t help but wonder how he was. I could no longer feel his pain or his suffering, and I wondered if he’d finally passed over. The thought made me sad, but I was relieved at the same time. If I couldn’t feel him, then he likely couldn’t feel me. It meant my passions from the day wouldn’t torment him like my past sessions had.
The cool breeze blew in from an open window on the other side of the room and I shivered under the blankets as I nuzzled into James’s warm body. I tucked the blanket closer over top of me as I tried to fall back asleep, but I couldn’t.
My mind raced with thoughts of Erik and his people, and what the girl Alexandra had said to me. I would be hunted for what I had done to him, and I wondered just how true those words were.
The rumors of Erik and his vampire coven had spread across the seas to America. We had followed the local group of vamps over to London for investigation because of their link to Erik’s coven.
They were ruthless and notorious, and their reputation was known all around the world. Everyone knew of the horrors that they had done and the murders and deaths they had caused. Unlike many of the covens in the United States, where they were mostly just groups of party addicts who spent their eternal lives doing drugs and dancing and doing God knows what other frivolous things. The coven in London was more of a gang. They ruled the paranormal community and were dark, dangerous beings. We knew and respected them enough to fear them, and my mission this past year had been to seek and destroy them once and for all.
Thinking back to Erik’s compassion towards me, I couldn’t help but wonder if what I knew to be true was wrong. My undercover mission had failed, obviously, and I had lost my people because of it. That was when the link between myself and Erik had been forged, and my life hadn’t been the same since. Everything I had experienced these past few months had been because of that night and my failure to do my job.
My stomach clenched at the thought of my colleagues and I pushed the memory from my mind. I had to find out exactly what had happened to them and Erik had been my last hope. Now that he w
as likely dead, and his people would be hunting me, I had no hope in finding out the truth.
I wasn’t sure what I was more upset about: the fact that I had lost the last months of my life because of the vampire, or that he was dead now and I wouldn’t get my answers.
I thought I would be angry, but I was just sad. My heart mourned for him, and I realized the mental connection between the two of us had tied me to him more than I had previously understood. We got to know each other’s minds, and I had begun to care for him in some fucking twisted way.
I watched the glow of the moon in silence as I listened to my and James’ breathing. A deep sadness grew in my heart just then as I realized I would have to leave. Now that the connection was broken between myself and Erik, I could leave the country and go home. Or go somewhere far away where Erik’s people couldn’t find me; couldn’t hunt me.
It would mean I would have to leave James behind in order to protect him, as I didn’t want to implicate him and the mess I got myself into. If Erik’s people really were hunting me, there was no way I was going to risk James’ life because of it. He had super shifter strength, and I’m sure with his connections with the local shifter community they would be able to put up a decent fight, but up against an entire coven of vampires I knew there was no hope. If it came to the fight between James and the vampires, I knew James would die.
I nuzzled myself back into his body and pulled his arm around me tight as he snored quietly into the back of my neck. I laughed quietly at the sound and closed my eyes to enjoy what I knew to be my last moments with James.
I couldn’t sleep and I thought of all the different places in the world that I could go to hide. I had never been down south before, and I thought I might like living near the ocean. Maybe Bermuda or Mexico. Someplace like that. I would have to leave my life behind, not that it was much of a life anyways. The only thing that made me sad was the idea of losing James.
I was jolted from my thoughts as my phone buzzed on the table beside me. I reached over to turn the phone on with my finger and saw a text message from a number I didn’t recognize. I rubbed my eyes as I got used to the brightness from the phone until I finally managed to focus on the message on the screen.
Miss Rose. Please come now, it is of utmost importance. - V
I pushed myself up on the couch as I stared at the phone. That must’ve been from Victor. How the hell did he get my number?
I immediately turned my phone off and set it down face down on the table, and turned to look at James’ sleeping body on the couch. My heart raced as I wondered exactly what the issue could be. It must be important for Victor to reach out. I turned back to look at my phone and reach for it, but then paused. Did I want to know? I fought with my own mind for a moment and then sighed. I turned the phone back on and texted Victor back quickly and then turned it to silent mode so it wouldn’t wake James.
What happened? What can I do?
I waited a moment and then my phone flashed alive again.
It’s Erik. I think he may have a chance if you come back.
I stared at the phone in disbelief. Erik was still alive? I closed my eyes and tried to feel the connection to him, but couldn’t feel the pull anymore. He had left my mind empty, and I assumed he was dead.
I turned to look at James’ beautiful sleeping face and stroked his cheek softly. I then realized I had no choice. I had to go. If there was any chance I had of saving Erik, I would have to at least try. I was the reason he was in this situation, and saving his life meant I wouldn’t have to spend the rest of my life hiding or wallowing in my own guilt. And perhaps, just maybe, it would mean I wouldn’t have to give James up.
I bent down and kissed James on the cheek as he moaned sleepily. “Go back to sleep, baby. It’s the middle the night.” He pulled me tight as I nuzzled into him.
“I have to go, James,” I whispered to him. I stroked his face as he struggled to open his eyes wearily. He then sat back and looked up at me as he recognized the desperation in my eyes. “What’s wrong? What happened?”
I bent down and kissed his lips and forced a smile. “It’s my friend I told you about before. He may not be dying after all, and I have to go see him.”
James frowned and took my hand in his and gave it a squeeze. “Are you sure you have to go? You said there is nothing you could do.”
I sighed and rubbed my eyes sleepily. “I didn’t think there was, but it turns out he might have a chance. I have to go to him.”
I nuzzled in close to James and absorbed his warmth as best I could. I nuzzled my face into his neck and kissed his warm skin. I pulled back and kissed him deeply on the lips, and he pulled me in tight. Our bodies pressed against each other, and a deep need grew inside of me again as I felt him grow hard between us.
I groaned into his lips but I push myself away. “There’s nothing I want more than the stay with you right now,” I whispered to him. “But my friend’s life depends on me, and I really have to go. I’m so sorry.”
James took a deep breath and exhaled, and then smiled at me. “Of course, you do what you have to do. You’re too good a person... I don’t deserve you.”
“I promise I’ll be back as soon as I can,” I said to him. “I just need to call a cab and I’ll be gone.”
I reached for my phone but he grabbed my arm and stopped me. “Just take my car, Charlie. The keys are on the table.” He pulled me down and kissed me on the lips and then he let me go.
I smiled down at him and couldn’t help but feel regret for having to leave. I ran my hands down along the front of his chest, down between his legs and grabbed hold of him tightly. “I’ll be back as soon as I can, and I’ll take care of this.” He thrust his groin forward and moaned and then push me away, reluctantly. “Go, before I pin you down and fuck you again.”
I bit my lip and moaned, but then with the last ounce of strength I had, I pushed myself off the couch and collected my clothes.
After awkwardly slinking into my clothes and grabbing his keys, I came back to the couch and kissed him and tucked him into the blankets. He closed his eyes and fell back asleep instantly, and I kissed him on the forehead and whispered goodbye. I looked back up at the moon that was high in the sky out the window and let out a deep breath I hadn’t known I’d been holding.
Erik, I’m coming. Hang on, I thought to myself, hoping beyond hope that he could hear me. I waited for an answer, but none came. I sighed again and then left the apartment and James behind as I headed back out to Oxford to meet the vampire coven I had initially been sent here to kill.
If only James knew the truth, I knew for a fact he would stop me. I hated lying to him and it hurt me at the very core of my being, but I knew the truth would kill him, and I didn’t want to implicate him in the dangers of my situation. If, after all of this, I could protect James, then I would know I was doing the right thing.
I walked out into the chilly night air and climbed into James’ car. The engine roared to life as I pulled out of his driveway and began driving down the street towards Oxford. The drive was long, and I sped as fast as I could without risking a ticket. My heart raced as I wondered just what had happened to change Victor’s mind. I don’t know how he got my number, but I didn’t think I really wanted to know the answer. Probably, the same way he found out my address.
I thought of Erik the entire drive and wondered what the hell I possibly could do to save him. I knew in my heart that I would do anything within reason to try and save his life, but concern grew inside me at the thought of just what they expected me to do. I thought about it on the drive there, trying to make up my mind on exactly what I would allow and what and where I would draw the line.
I thought about the girl, Alexandra, and all the others around the world that sacrificed their human lives to become nothing more than feeding toys to the vampires. I shook my head and finally decided that there was no way I would offer myself to him for food. Not that that would solve anything, as he seemed to refuse to eat, anyway.
I would offer him comfort and support, but that was the limit as to what I was willing to give.
I thought of all the possibilities and ways in which to save him, but the image of his dying body flashed in my mind and I couldn’t help but feel helpless. I knew deep inside that there was nothing I could do for him, for I was nothing but a mere human with a broken mental connection to him with nothing to offer that could help.
The moon shone overhead, its light flooding in through the moonroof of the car as I drove. I opened the window and let the cold autumn air blow in over my skin, cooling me down and calming my heart. I drove in silence through the darkness, not knowing what to expect once I arrived.
I had no idea what Victor expected, but I guessed I would find out soon enough.

It didn’t take long before I arrived at Erik’s building in Oxford.
I drove around the block a few times, looking for parking, but didn’t see anywhere I could leave the car. I drove quite a few blocks away before finally pulling over and parking. I jumped out of the car and ran down the sidewalk as fast as I could towards the building where Erik was. My heart raced and my skin burned with heat as I ran; the exertion in the cold night air putting pressure on my body that I really wasn’t prepared for that evening.
I finally arrived at the building and ran up the stairs and slammed the door open and proceeded to run as fast as I could down the endless spiral stairs, down to the depths of the dungeon-like basement where I knew Erik lay.
I had run most of the way by memory, my hands outstretched so as to not run into a wall, but my eyes couldn’t see. I was blind and I listened as best I could for the sound of footsteps. I finally reached the room of the fireplace. My body was hot from the exertion, and I tossed my jacket on the couch by the fire as I looked around the empty room for sign of anyone.
I called out, “Hello? Victor? Erik?” My voice echoed in the hollow room, but I immediately heard footsteps quickly approaching from down the hall. I waited and my heart beat loudly in my chest. It was all I could hear as I tried to regain my breath and slow my heartbeat to a calm rate.
